Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome and Lumbar Radiculopathy

Tarsal tunnel syndrome (TTS) is a painful foot condition. Lumbosacral radiculopathy (LR) may also present with symptoms occurring in Tarsal tunnel syndrome. However, no studies have been reported to determine the possible coexistence of these two conditions.

The aim of a study published in the European Spine Journal, was to identify the prevalence of Tarsal tunnel syndrome in patients with confirmed Lumbosacral radiculopathy and to analyze the clinical and electrodiagnostic features of patients with both Tarsal tunnel syndrome and Lumbosacral radiculopathy.

The findings the study suggest that the prevalence of Tarsal tunnel syndrome is significant in patients with Lumbosacral radiculopathy.

Thus, more caution should be paid when diagnosing and managing patients with Lumbosacral radiculopathy due to the possible existence of Tarsal tunnel syndrome, as their management strategies are quite different.

Hospitals to Employ Chiropractors in South Dakota

South Dakota law forbids corporations from employing chiropractors, but a bill in the Legislature would change that.

If passed, it would enable the state’s health systems to begin employing chiropractors, provided they meet certain conditions set out in the bill.

It’s a prospect that has generated controversy among the state’s chiropractors, who have a reputation for independence. Some fear that they would lose their independence if the big health systems started buying up practices and bringing chiropractors in-house.

They point to the dearth of independent doctors that exist in the market.

Another fear is that chiropractors who resisted hospital employment would be locked out of self-insured health plans.
