And Now for some news ….
Soil inoculation steers restoration of terrestrial ecosystems
A study published in the journal Nature Plants looked at the Microbiome in soil.
Many natural ecosystems have been degraded because of human activities and need to be restored so that biodiversity is protected.
However, restoration can take decades and restoration activities are often unsuccessful because of abiotic constraints (for example, eutrophication, acidification) and unfavourable biotic conditions (for example, competition or adverse soil community composition).
A key question is what manageable factors prevent transition from degraded to restored ecosystems and what interventions are required for successful restoration.
Experiments have shown that the soil community is an important driver of plant community development, suggesting that manipulation of the soil community is key to successful restoration of terrestrial ecosystems.
The impact of soil inoculation on plant and soil community composition was most pronounced when the topsoil layer was removed, whereas effects were less strong, but still significant, when the soil inocula were introduced into intact topsoil.
Therefore, soil inoculation is a powerful tool to both restore disturbed terrestrial ecosystems and steer plant community development.

A commentary on Chiropractic and Prescription Drugs
There is a growing desire within the chiropractic profession to expand the scope of practice to include limited medication prescription rights for the treatment of spine-related and other musculoskeletal conditions.
Such prescribing rights have been successfully incorporated into a number of chiropractic jurisdictions worldwide. If limited to a musculoskeletal scope, medication prescription rights have the potential to change the present role of chiropractors within the healthcare system by paving the way for practitioners to become comprehensive specialists in the conservative management of spine / musculoskeletal disorders.
However, if the chiropractic profession wishes to lobby to expand the scope of practice to include limited prescriptive authority, several issues must first be addressed. These would include changes to chiropractic education and legislation, as well as consideration of how such privileges could impact the chiropractic profession on a more theoretical basis.
In this commentary, published in BioMed Central, the authors examine the arguments in favour of and against limited medication prescription rights for chiropractors and discuss the implications of such privileges for the profession.
