And Now for some news ….
MRI Findings of Disc Degeneration are More Prevalent in Adults with Low Back Pain than in Asymptomatic Controls
Imaging features of spine degeneration are common in symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals.
The authors of a recent study, published in the journal Spine, compared the prevalence of MR imaging features of lumbar spine degeneration in adults 50 years of age and younger with and without self-reported low back pain.
The authors performed a meta-analysis of studies reporting the prevalence of degenerative lumbar spine MR imaging findings in asymptomatic and symptomatic adults 50 years of age or younger.
Symptomatic individuals had axial low back pain with or without radicular symptoms.
The study concluded that Meta-analysis demonstrates that MR imaging evidence of disc bulge, degeneration, extrusion, protrusion, Modic 1 changes, and spondylolysis are more prevalent in adults 50 years of age or younger with back pain compared with asymptomatic individuals.

Acute Headache Attributed to Whiplash
A recent study published in the European Spine Journal, tested the association between arcuate foramen (AF) in the first cervical vertebra with acute headache attributed to whiplash.
This was a retrospective study of 128 patients that suffered a whiplash.
The presence or absence of arcuate foramen was recorded after a radiographic study, as well as the presence or absence of acute headache after the whiplash.
The results found that the frequency of arcuate foramen was 17.2%. Patients with bilateral arcuate foramen presented a significant increase in the frequency of acute headache in comparison with the non- arcuate foramen group.
The study concluded that the presence of bilateral arcuate foramen is associated to an increased frequency of acute headache after suffering a whiplash, information of interest for the attention to these patients.
