And Now for some news ….
Medicare Physician Fee Schedule for 2021
According to a recent mailing from ChiroCode, on August 3, 2020, the proposed Medicare Physician Fee Schedule for 2021 was released. This 1,355 page document includes some sweeping changes to the Medicare program. There are a few items in particular which should be noted by chiropractic offices.
First up is Telehealth. Even though telehealth will keep much of it’s expanded services, Medicare will only reimburse a doctor of chiropractic for spinal manipulation.
Next, while many chiropractic offices are exempt from participation in MIPS due to the low volume threshold, it should be noted that there is a “Chiropractic Medicine” specialty set established by CMS. Quality Measures include:
- Functional Outcome Assessment
- Functional Status Change for Patients with Knee Impairments
- Functional Status Change for Patients with Hip Impairments
- Functional Status Change for Patients with Lower Leg, Foot or Ankle Impairments
- Functional Status Change for Patients with Low Back Impairments
- Functional Status Change for Patients with Shoulder Impairments
- Functional Status Change for Patients with Elbow, Wrist or Hand Impairments
- Functional Status Change for Patients with Neck Impairments

Plant Based Diets and Hypertension
The consumption of strict vegetarian diets with no animal products is associated with low blood pressure (BP). It is not clear whether less strict plant-based diets (PBDs) containing some animal products exert a similar effect.
The main objective of this meta-analysis, published in the Journal of Hypertension, was to assess whether PBDs reduce BP in controlled clinical trials.
The certainty of the results is high for the lacto-ovo vegetarian and Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension diets, moderate for the Nordic and Mediterranean diets, low for the vegan diet, and very low for the high-fruit and vegetable and high-fiber diets.
The study concluded that plant-based diets with limited animal products lower both systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure, across sex and BMI.
As always, discuss all Nutritional Recommendations with your Qualified Health Care Provider.
