And Now for some news ….
Chiropractic Treatment and Stroke Risk
Chiropractic manipulation is a popular treatment for neck pain and headache, but may increase the risk of cervical artery dissection and stroke.
Patients with carotid artery dissection can present with neck pain and/or headache before experiencing a stroke. These are common symptoms seen by both chiropractors and primary care physicians (PCPs).
The authors of a study published in the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases, aimed to assess the risk of carotid artery stroke after chiropractic care by comparing association between chiropractic and primary care physicians visits and subsequent stroke.
The study concluded that the results found no excess risk of carotid artery stroke after chiropractic care.
Associations between chiropractic and primary care physicians visits and stroke were similar and likely due to patients with early dissection-related symptoms seeking care prior to developing their strokes.

Economic Impact of Arthritis and Joint Pain
Joint pain, including back pain, and arthritis are common conditions in the United States, affecting more than 100 million individuals and costing upwards of $200 billion each year.
Although activity limitations associated with these disorders impose a substantial economic burden, this relationship has not been explored in a large U.S. cohort.
In a study published in the journal Arthritis Research and Therapy, the authors used the Medical Expenditures Panel Survey to investigate whether functional limitations explain the difference in medical expenditures between patients with arthritis and joint pain and those without.
The study concluded that the growing economic and public health burden of arthritis and joint pain, as well as the corresponding complications of functional, activity, and sensory limitations, calls for an interdisciplinary approach and heightened awareness among providers to identify strategies that meet the needs of high-risk patients in order to prevent and delay disease progression.
